Quick and Easy 5 Ingredient Compote Recipe

        Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This may be the tastiest compote you’ve ever made, and it’s completely healthy!

        • How to make a compote from frozen fruit

You simply will just need to pop all the ingredients you need for this mixed berry compote into a pan and heat it on medium heat for 5mins and the fruit has begun to soften and it’s juices have been released.

How long does it take to make a compote

Not long at all! You’ll just need roughly 5 mins of your time. As it is just the case of letting all the ingredients simmer in a pan to create a ‘compote’ and allow it to absorb all of the flavours.

Flavours of cinnamon, star anise and orange. The perfect balance of flavors that works well in any dessert like Panna cotta

        Can you freeze fruit compote

Yes! I’d recommend freezing it in a sealed, airtight container and when your in need of some compote simply remove it from the freezer and pop into a pan over medium heat and let it melt back to its original consistency.

And keeps for up to a month.

Another alternative is to store your summer berries compote in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Where it will keep for up to two weeks.

        How to thicken compote

If you feel you’d prefer to make your compote thicker or perhaps you'd like to make a set coulis. Like the one in my soya free cheesecake.

Simply heat the compote for a further 5 mins adding an extra ½cup of water and 2tbsp of cornflour to the pan.

Then just simply continue to mix, until it begins to thicken. Remove from heat and set aside for 5 mins before pouring it over your confection and refrigerating it until set.

        What to serve with compote?

Compote pairs brilliantly on top of panna cotta, pavlova, eton mess, anything really! As it adds a beautiful sweet freshness to any dessert to tie all the flavours together

        healthy compote on panna cotta

Mary berry fruit compote recipe is paired with yogurt. Which is also a brilliant idea. It adds sweetness, freshness and bite to the smooth creamy yogurt. Which can also be made vegan by choosing a vegan yogurt substitute. Like the one found in my panna cotta recipe.

I completely agree, I think the aniseed adds a beautiful spiced flavour to the compote that really helps to highlight the freshness of the berries
