Expert Baking Tips on how to make this quick easy recipe apple crisp

Although this quick and easy apple crisp recipe is super simple to make, here are just a few expert tips i'd recommend:

Add a teaspoon or two of muesli to your mug cake to add more texture for the crumble topping.

Keep the apple peel on for more texture, if you'd prefer to enjoy the cobbler without it then, peel the apples before slicing.

The cake is ready when the sponge springs back when touched.

        How make apple crisp

Ingredients for an easy recipe for apple crisp

Here's everything I used to make this gluten free recipe apple crisp
        • Vegan butter- You can use either vegan block butter or margarine.
        • Water - A very small amount is required and is needed to bind the crumble together.
        • Brown Sugar- I like to use soft brown sugar which is just a very refined sugar, but if you don't have any refined granulated brown sugar will work well here.
        • Gluten free Plain flour - If you’re gluten free flour doesn't already have xanthan gum add a teaspoon to the dry ingredients. This will help add stability to the cake and prevent it from crumbling.
        • Rolled oats - if you're making your apple crisp pie topping gluten free then you'll need to use gluten free oats also

        Flavour Variations and Mix-ins

        Classic peach cobbler

Simply substitute the mixed berries for a fresh, peeled and chopped peach or a tin of peaches. And follow the same method as this microwave berry dessert. Or make a traditional peach cobbler skillet using this super quick and easy recipe here.

To make this apple crisp recipe healthy, we will be making this apple crisp without butter and instead using 2 ½ teaspoon of avocado oil. As well as making this vegan apple crisp no sugar and instead using ½ tablespoon of honey, this will also help bind the crumble topping together.

        Blueberry crisp

This is essentially the same recipe for this apple crisp however, there are slightly different spices used that balance well with the blueberry. Check out the recipe here.

        FAQs

What type apples for apple crisp ?

Any apples will do, but I’d recommend bramley, granny smith and honeycrisp as they have a slightly better flavour.

Yes, if you’d prefer not to add oats to your apple crisp, that’s fine and there’s no need to substitute it with anything else.

        Storing and freezing

Does apple crisp need to be refrigerated ?

They stay good at room-temperature for up to 2 days and in the fridge for up to a week. However, once served with ice cream, store in the fridge straight away and it will keep for up to 2 days.
